President-elect of civil engineering society to speak at S&T

The S&T student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will host Dr. Jean-Louis Briaud at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. He will give a talk titled “ASCE and the Future of Civil Engineering.” The event is open to all. Free pizza and refreshments will be served.

Briaud will serve as the 2021 president of ASCE. He is the Spencer J. Buchanan Chair and a distinguished professor of civil and environmental engineering at Texas A&M University.

Briaud’s talk will touch on societal challenges, particularly in investing and maintaining infrastructure to improve the quality of life in both the United States and worldwide.

ASCE is an international body of civil engineering professionals. As the oldest national engineering society in the United States, it includes more than 150,000 members in 177 countries.
