“Astronaut Group 1” tells the story of the Mercury Seven, an elite group chosen from among hundreds of military test pilots to be America’s first astronauts. From the exhilaration of Alan Shepard’s first moments in space to the adrenaline rush of John Glenn making split-second decisions to survive re-entry, the audience gets to share in the thrills of early space exploration.
Before the show, a selection of artifacts and documents from Project Mercury will be on display in Castleman Hall, including a training helmet, operator’s manual and more provided by the Space Museum and Grissom Center in Bonne Terre, Missouri. A rover built by Missouri S&T’s Mars Rover Design Team will also be displayed before the show.
Tickets are $25 for the public, $20 for Missouri S&T faculty and staff, and $5 for youth ages 18 and younger and Missouri S&T students.
