Desegregation in the Miner Nation: 75th Anniversary of MSM Desegregation

In October, explore the exhibitions and events on desegregation of higher education in Missouri created by the Missouri S&T archives and the State Historical Society of Missouri-Rolla Research Center and learn about pioneering students such as George Horne, Elmer Bell, Jr, Lelia Thompson Flagg and Silas Garrett. “Desegregation in the Miner Nation: 75th Anniversary of Desegregation in Higher Education” will be on display during the month of October on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library.

Associated events will also be held on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library including: 

  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 - Opening reception
  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 - Dr. Gary Kremer, executive director of the State Historical Society of Missouri, will discuss the desegregation of higher education in Missouri.
  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 - Dr. Larry Gragg, S&T's historian, will discuss the desegregation of Missouri S&T.
  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 - Join Dr. Harvest Collier, former chemistry professor and vice provost for undergraduate studies at S&T, for a discussion about his experience of faculty desegregation at Missouri S&T.
