Enter a space where identity blurs, binaries break, and creativity takes form in folded pages and photocopied dreams. Missouri S&T’s Zine Lab invites you to its inaugural gathering, in collaboration with LGBTQ+ Rolla and the St. Louis Independent Comics Expo (SLICE).
Join artists, storytellers, and fellow explorers for an afternoon of radical self-expression and collaborative creation. Snacks, drinks, and zine-making supplies will be provided. Featuring zine-making workshops with Alain McAlister and creative consults with Steenz, President of SLICE.
The event is open to anyone 18 or older who lives in or engages with the local community. No zine-making experience required. No templates. No rules. Just paper, ink, and the freedom to make meaning on your own terms. Come as you are. Leave with something that speaks your truth.
At this event, a separate research study led by Dr. Ryan Cheek and Dr. Carleigh Davis at Missouri S&T is being conducted. The study explores how zine-making might serve as a tool for engaging communities in conversations about public interest technology (PIT) and technological inequities. Participation in the research is completely optional and not required to take part in the workshop.
The study is purely observational—we will not collect any personally identifiable information. If you’d like to participate, you’ll have the option to scan a QR code and provide anonymous, open-ended feedback about your experience. Your responses will be used to inform the research and help us improve future events. This study has been approved by the University of Missouri IRB (Project #2126025).
