Matthew Shepard Day
The Missouri S&T Community will celebrate the life of Matthew Shepard. Matthew Shepard, a student at the University of Wyoming, died on October 12th, 1998 after being beaten, tortured and left to die near Laramie WY, all because he was gay. This crime spurred a national conversation and movement against hate. Whether you identify as LGBTQ, or are an Ally to the community, we invite you to attend this event. Lunch will be provided, a brief showing of a video of Matthew’s story will be shown, and conversations about how Allies can continue to support the LGBTQ community will be facilitated. Luminaries will be placed in memory of Matthew Shepard outside the Havener Center Lawn at 5:00pm that evening.
