About this Event
View map Free EventThe International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) student design team, in conjunction with the Student Union Board (SUB), is excited to be hosting an all-day cardiac screening event for students on May 2, 2025, in the Innovation Lab Forum from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The first 1,000 students will undergo a free cardiac screening, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) -- a mapping of the heart's electrical activity -- to screen for potentially dangerous cardiac arrhythmias and refer for further cardiac evaluation. Arrhythmias can cause sudden cardiac arrest, a leading cause of death for 19- to 24-year-olds, and early detection is key. ECGs will be read by board-certified cardiologists with the Ruth Lee Miller Heart Research Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to cardiovascular research.
