Dr.  Karan Watson, Regents' Professor of Electrical Engineering and former Provost of Texas A&M, will give a presentation called "Why Respect, Fairness, and Trust is Good for Everyone in the University." This kickoff lecture, hosted by the S&T ADVANCE Program, will discuss the importance and value of creating a diverse and inclusive working environment while enhancing a drive toward excellence. Dr. Watson will also discuss why successful universities in the future will be those that are able to minimize inherent bias within the hiring, development, and promotion processes for faculty. Her presentation is informed by her experiences serving in multiple leadership roles at Texas A&M, including as its first female Provost.  A reception will follow the lecture; all members of the S&T community are welcome to attend.
