The Steinmeyer Memorial Speaker Series welcomes Dr. Don Lien to S&T at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. All faculty interested in S&T’s emerging emphasis on energy economics are invited to the presentation of his paper, “Intraday Return Predictability in the Crude Oil Market.” Dr. Lien is the Richard S. Liu Distinguished Chair in Business in the Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas in San Antonio. He has published more than 350 papers in the fields of economics, finance and statistics.

Dr. Lien’s lecture coincides with the launch of S&T’s energy economics program, which will draw on expertise in various aspects of energy across several of S&T’s engineering departments. S&T is taking a comprehensive approach to establishing an academic program that aims to address current and future global energy challenges by fostering multidisciplinary collaborations between engineers and economists. Once established, the energy economics program will be introduced to the university’s partner institutions in the Middle East, positioning S&T to become a global academic leader in energy-related fields.

Dr. Lien’s presentation will be immediately followed by a discussion about forming an interdisciplinary research team.
